Cherry Crisp

For a sweet summer healthy dessert to bring to your next barbecue or to make for dinner, we have the most delicious cherry crisp recipe for you.

Cherries are full of antioxidants.  Here are some other amazing qualities:


  1. Relives Insomnia - Cherries contains melatonin which is a hormone also made in the body, it regulates your sleep and wake cycles.
  2. Lowers Hypertension - Cherries contain potassium, which helps in removing excess 
  3. Prevents Cardiovascular disease - Antioxidants called anthocyanins help in reducing bad cholesterol levels, regulate the blood pressure and fight free radicals that may cause inflammation. 
  4. Maintains pH balance - Cherries contain a good amount of potassium which help in removing excess sodium content from the body and balances the amount of both potassium and sodium which automatically helps in maintaining your blood pressure levels.

This recipe calls for coconut sugar which is a better alternative to regular sugar.  Coconut sugar is lower on the glycemic index than regular sugar.  What does that mean?  If something is lower on the glycemic index it will not spike your blood sugar levels like higher GI foods will.  Coconut sugar is a much better alternative when cooking something sweet!




Cherry Filling:

4 cups of pitted cherries

2 tablespoons of oat flour

1/4 cup orange juice


Crisp Topping:

1 1/2 cup rolled oats

1/2 cup oat flour

1/2 cup coconut sugar

1 teaspoon

1/8 teaspoon

1/2 cup unsalted butter

Preheat over to 375.

In a medium sized bowl, mix cherries, oat flour & orange juice - pour into the casserole dish & set aside.

In a separate bowl, mix together all of the crumble ingredients. Use a fork to cut the butter into the dry ingredients until it forms little crumbles. Evenly spread topping over the cherries in the casserole dish.

Place in the oven and bake at 375 for 30 minutes or until topping stats to brown.

Serve and enjoy!
