CBDa

The CBDa cannabinoid may not be as popular as its offspring, CBD, but it’s a wonderfully complex compound that offers its own slew of unique results. Here at ATLRx, we’re happy to offer high-quality CBDa product options for sale for those who are interested in what this cannabinoid has to offer.

What is CBDa?

CBDa is short for cannabidiolic acid, and it is CBD’s precursor. This means that CBDa turns into CBD when it’s decarboxylated (exposed to high temperatures), making it the “raw” form of cannabidiol.

Even though it converts to CBD, the CBDa cannabinoid has its own potential applications that consumers are quickly coming to know and love. CBDa is also a non-psychoactive cannabinoid, similar to CBD. No matter how much you consume, you won’t get high. The compound doesn’t interact with the cannabinoid receptors in the brain the way that THC does, making it unable to cause the unpleasant experience often associated with cannabis.

When combined with other cannabinoids, including CBD, CBDa is known to provide a wide range of full-body results, making it a well-sought-after compound. On its own, the CBDa cannabinoid does produce a therapeutic experience, but this experience isn’t going to be nearly as potent as if you enjoyed the cannabinoid with other compounds and terpenes, activating a synergy.

CBDa - FAQ's

Where does CBDa come from?

The cannabinoid CBDa is derived from hemp. It, too, is a precursor to another cannabinoid: CBGa. The primary cannabinoid in the cannabis plant during growth is CBGa, also known as the mother of all cannabinoids. Over time, the plant gets exposed to heat and light, decarboxylating the CBGa cannabinoids into CBDa, instead. Therefore, CBDa is derived from CBGa!

What is the difference between CBDa and CBD?

While both CBDa and CBD are cannabinoids found within cannabis, they are two completely different compounds with unique chemical structures and properties. When CBDa is decarboxylated, it becomes CBD after being converted from its acidic precursor.
In general, CBD has been much better well-studied for its applications than CBDa has, so we know a bit more about CBD than we do about its precursor. The CBDa cannabinoid is also not quite as abundant as CBD in the plant, so you may not find as many CBDa products on the market as you do CBD.

However, both cannabinoids are federally legal and do not have psychoactive properties.

How much do CBDa products cost?

The cost of CBDa products is going to vary significantly, as it depends on factors like the type of product, the quality of extract, and the brand’s choice in prices. Typically, the higher the amount of CBDa, the more expensive the product you will have to pay for. Products like CBDa edibles or concentrates will cost more than CBDa hemp, for example, because edibles or concentrates take more time and effort to curate than CBDa hemp does.

Generally, your average CBDa product will likely cost just a little bit more than a CBD product would, simply due to availability, popularity, and the rarity of the cannabinoid as a whole.

At ATLRx, we sell our CBDa isolate for just $14.99, making it much more affordable than your average cannabis concentrate.

Is CBDa stronger than CBD?

We can’t say for sure whether CBDa is stronger than CBD, as it really depends on the person, the product, and the desired experience. Some people report CBDa being less potent than CBD, but there isn’t a lot of backing to support this. We do know that both cannabinoids work well with certain receptors in the body, creating a well-rounded experience.

If you want the strongest possible results, the best option would be to consume both CBDa and CBD. The cannabinoids work best in conjunction, per the entourage synergy, and many products contain both CBD and CBDa for this reason. So, instead of isolating either of the compounds, try combining the two for a fuller, more powerful result.

Does CBDa turn into CBD?

Yes, CBDa does turn into CBD through something called decarboxylation. Decarboxylation can occur through heating—like when you vape or smoke your flower—or during a different process like extraction or manufacturing. In the case of CBDa, it tends to turn into CBD naturally by being exposed to light or heat.

However, not all CBDa turns into CBD, and you can still very easily enjoy raw CBDa. There are many hemp plants that contain both CBD and CBDa in high amounts! But once you heat it, the CBDa turns into CBD, giving you an even higher cannabidiol percentage overall.

What is the difference between CBN and CBDa?

CBN is short for cannabinol and CBDa is short for cannabidiolic acid. These two cannabinoids are both found in cannabis, but they are completely different. CBN and CBDa have unique chemical structures and also work differently in the body to produce different results.

As we’ve established, CBDa is the precursor to CBD; however, CBN is actually a byproduct of THC. When THC degrades or ages, it turns into CBN. Though neither of the cannabinoids will get you high, CBN does actually contain a very low amount of psychoactivity from THC. Some studies also report that CBN may be at a higher risk of causing you to fail a drug test than other cannabinoids like CBD or CBDa.

What is the difference between CBG and CBDa?

The cannabis plant also contains cannabigerol, another cannabinoid. When the cannabis plant is growing, it primarily consists of CBGa cannabinoids, which are often described as the “mother of all cannabinoids.” However, as it gets exposed to heat and light, CBGa breaks down into the CBDa cannabinoid as well as THCa.

Both cannabinoids have shown a lot of therapeutic potential, and neither one of them is psychoactive. However, they are two separate compounds that have unique chemical structures; so it’s important not to get them confused.
