Is Delta 10 Natural or Synthetic?

Out of the hundreds of new cannabinoids popping up on the market, it’s hard to keep up with all the new ones emerging into the limelight. Delta-10 THC is one of the rising stars in cannabinoids that has exploded on the market. I guess you can call Delta-10 the new kid on the block. The popularity of Delta-8 THC has paved the way for Delta-10 THC to step onto the scene. Delta-10 is another analog of THC and that is synthesized from other cannabinoids.

Here’s everything you need to know about Delta-10 THC: is it synthetic, is it natural, is it legal, where it comes from, etc. Let’s take a deep dive into Delta 10 THC!

Table of Contents:

Is Delta-10 Synthetic?

Delta-10 is NOT considered synthetic. Synthetic means it is an entirely artificial cannabinoid like Spice and K2. Spice and K2 are very dangerous synthetic cannabinoids. People often associate the word “synthetic” with being bad. The word synthetic cannabinoid has a notorious connotation that does not ring true for Delta 10 THC.

The biggest reason that Delta 10 can be considered nonsynthetic is that D10 can be found naturally in cannabis or hemp plants without human intervention. Delta 10 THC is usually found in cannabis plants but in a minimal amount, around 1%. CBD, which is found generously in hemp plants, is the cannabinoid used to make D10 THC. To extract enough Delta 10 THC from CBD for usage takes a bit of science and chemistry.

What is Delta-10 THC?

THC isomers and analogs of THC have been discovered by cannabis scientists over the past few years. We know of Delta 9 THC (original THC, D9 THC), Delta 8 THC, another THC isomer, and now Delta-10 Tetrahydrocannabinol, also known as Delta-10 THC or D10 THC. Compounds with an identical chemical formula that differ in their arrangement are called isomers.

D10 THC is a delicate molecule that looks quite similar to Delta-8 THC and Delta-9 THC. However, Delta-10 is not the same as D8 or D9 because they don’t share the double bond on the eighth carbon ring; it’s on the tenth. Delta-10 can change swiftly, and for this reason, it works better in combination with Delta 8. The Delta-10 mixture generally ranges  from twenty to thirty percent versus seventy to eighty percent Delta-8, adding an extra fundamental and changing the experience you would have with Delta-8 alone.

Since, Delta-10 has a weaker strength it has often been marketed as a Sativa forward cannabinoid, whereas Delta-8 would be more of an Indica.

Approximately one percent of the cannabis plant or hemp plant contains delta-10 THC, a cannabinoid found in small amounts.  It is commonly prepared from hemp-extracted CBD, like Delta-8 THC.

How Was D10 THC Discovered?

Delta 10 THC was actually an accidental discovery. It started with a California cannabis farm in San Bernardino County. The farm had just bought a batch of outdoor-grown cannabis during the same time the California wildfires were happening. Aerial firefighters at the time dropped a fire retardant on the fires, and some of the fire retardants landed on the outdoor cannabis batch that was bought at the time.

During the extraction and distillation of the outdoor batch from any unwanted contaminants. The farm noticed that strange crystals were beginning to appear. The team began to purify the crystals and studied them using advanced High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) technology. The crystals were then sent off to a licensed test facility, but they were still stumped as to what it was. After a few months, the team named their discovery Delta 10 THC. That is what led to the discovery of Delta 10 THC. Guess we can call it a happy accident.

Is Delta-10 A Synthetic Cannabinoid Like Spice?

Delta-10, even though it is derived synthetically, does not mean it is in the same category as illegal drugs like Spice and K2. Unlike these illegal drugs, Delta-10 is a THC isomer and is derived from CBD (hemp plants).  Spice and K2 have a fundamentally different chemical structure than THC and Delta-10 THC.

Synthetic cannabinoids like K2 and Spice are very dangerous and made with harmful chemicals.

Is Delta 10 Hemp-derived?

Yes, you can consider Delta 10 THC to be hemp-derived.  Delta-10 THC would not be federally legal if it is not hemp-derived. Though Delta-10 THC is not found in high quantities in cannabis plants, CBD is. CBD is a federally legal cannabinoid that is derived from hemp plants, and Delta-10 is derived from CBD. Through the extraction of CBD from hemp plants, the CBD can be converted to Delta-10 THC. The existence of CBD is the only reason Delta 10 THC is considered hemp-derived. We at ATLRx only provide hemp-derived Delta 10 THC products.

How Is Delta 10 THC Made?

Delta 10 only shows up in cannabis plants in small quantities which are around 1%. This creates a problem for producers who are looking to develop D10 products. Making Delta 10 THC is not a simple process and it involves a bit of science and chemistry in a professional laboratory setting. The solution to this problem is Delta 10 is chemically synthesized from CBD via a structural isomerization process. Structural Isomerization takes CBD, alters its molecular structure using special organic solvents, and converts it into Delta 10. The final product is Delta 10 distillate, oil, or vape product.

Basic Differences Between Delta 10, Delta 9, and Delta 8 THC

Is Delta 10 THC The Same Thing As Delta 8 THC?

The simple answer is no. One is called D10, and the other is called D8; the obvious difference is the numbers associated with each. Delta-10 and Delta-8 are both forms of THC, but they differ in their chemical composition. Delta-10 has a double bond on the 10th carbon ring, and Delta 8 has one on the 8th carbon ring. The main difference is that Delta-10 THC acts more like a Sativa while Delta-8 THC is more similar to an Indica. Both would be considered excellent for beginners or users with little THC experience.

Which Is Better, Delta-8 or Delta-10?

Which is better depends on what the user prefers. If we are talking about availability and the amount of variety in products, Delta-8 THC is the clear winner.  Delta-8 has been on the market for longer than Delta-10. Delta-10 is still considered to be in a niche market. The best way to know which is better is to try it out yourself. Another way to believe which is better is to read online reviews on Delta 8 and Delta 10.

Is Delta 8 or Delta 10 Stronger?

When we talk about whether Delta-8 THC or Delta-10 THC is more potent, we are talking about potency. If we compare which is more potent, we must compare both to Delta 9 THC. By comparing Delta-10 and Delta-8 to Delta -9 gives the user a better understanding of the strength each possesses. Research shows that Delta-8 is roughly 50-66% as potent as Delta-9 THC. While Delta-10 is considerably less potent than Delta-8 when compared to which is 20-30% less potent than Delta 8. Most would consider Delta-8 THC to be stronger than Delta-10 THC.

How Is Delta-10 THC Measured And Tested?

Delta 10 THC is measured through a potency test. ACS Laboratory is renowned for its testing of cannabis and cannabis-related products. ACS Laboratory uses Ultra High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) machinery to measure all types of Delta 10 THC products.

Is Delta 10 Safe?

Hypothetically, yes, Delta-10 is considered safe if THC (Delta-9) is relatively safe. Delta 10 interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system because it binds with the CB1 and CB2 receptors like other types of THC.

Like any other cannabinoid, taking Delta-10 in high concentrations is considered unsafe. Always take products with proper recommended concentrations. Read the labels of all the Delta 10 products you decide to purchase. Please take the proper precautions when using a new product.

Shop with reputable companies that provide COAs (lab results) showing if there are any hazardous substances like residual acids or heavy metals. Understanding how to properly read COAs (certificate of analysis) is key to ensuring your Delta 10 product is safe. Make sure that your Delta-10 THC is made with quality and care.

Delta-10’s Journey Through the Body

  • Delta-10 THC enters through your gastrointestinal system, where your liver’s cytochrome P450 enzymes metabolize it.
  • Metabolization turns Delta 10 THC into individual metabolites.
  • As soon as the metabolization is complete, Delta-10 and its metabolites go through your bloodstream and disperse in different areas of your body.
  • The areas of the body that Delta-10 disperses to are peripheral organs, immune cells, brain, central nervous system, and hair follicles.

Will Delta 10 THC Show Up On A Drug Test?

Since D10 THC is a form of THC, and even though it is chemically different from Delta 9 or Delta 8, it will still fail a drug test. Like Delta-8, Delta-10 THC is broken down by the same metabolites in the body that break down THC. The metabolites are the same ones that drug tests used to detect THC usage. We highly recommend not using Delta 10 THC products if you plan on taking a drug test.

Is Delta 10 THC Legal?

Delta-10 THC is legal only if it comes from the hemp plant. 100% hemp-derived Delta 10 THC is the only form of Delta 10 that is legal. In other words, Delta 10 needs to be made from 100% hemp extracts.  Any Delta 10 product that is derived from Delta 9 marijuana is usually considered illegal federally and also depending on the State you live in.

The 2018 Farm Bill, also known as the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018, legalized CBD with Delta-9 THC content under 0.3% on a dry-weight basis; there is no stipulation for D10 THC directly. The omission of this detail lets Delta 10 live in this grey area of the law that has facilitated the sales to millions of people across the country.

At ATLRx, we assure you that our Delta 10 products are completely hemp-derived and fall under the guidelines of the 2018 Farm Bill.

Why Is Delta 10 More Expensive Than Delta 8?

The reason why Delta 10 is more expensive than Delta 8 is because of the level of difficulty it takes to mass produce. Not only is it difficult to produce, but it is also still a baby in comparison to Delta 8.
