This month some of the ATLRx family is headed to Bali & Australia.  We are so excited and grateful to take our work on the go while exploring new lands. The only pitfall of long travels & many time zones is….jet lag.  Cramped up in small airplane seats, 15 hour plane rides, and multiple layovers. We did however, make sure we brought CBD.

Many people use melatonin or sleeping pills to help with jet lag but sleeping pills can be harmful to your body. In fact, some reports claim sleeping pills have even led to blood clots in the air, which you’re already prone to while flying.  Melatonin is a natural remedy but it is easy to miscalculate the dosage so it can actually make jet lag worse.

The condition of jet lag occurs when there is a disruption to our circadian rhythm. What is your circadian rhythm?  Your circadian rhythm is basically a 24-hour internal clock that is running in the background of your brain and cycles between sleepiness and alertness at regular intervals. It’s also known as your sleep/wake cycle.  Your circadian rhythm works best when you have regular sleep habits.  When you experience something like jet lag, your circadian rhythm gets all out of whack making you feel a little drowsy, tired and having a hard time concentrating.

A part of your brain called the hypothalamus controls your circadian rhythm.  The hypothalamus is impacted by whether it is day time or night time. When it’s dark, your brain releases melatonin into your body making you tired at night time.

Jet lag can really put a damper on your trip, especially after 34 hours of traveling. When you land, you don’t want to have to catch up on sleep at the beginning of your trip.  Also, flying in general comes with many different emotions, with many of us experiencing anxiety or bodily pains from being cramped in a very small space.

As always, be sure to do your research when bringing CBD on planes.  In most areas CBD with under .3% THC is allowed but each state and country may vary.
