Edibles are a wonderful and potent way to consume your favorite cannabinoid that does not involve smoking, some prefer this method for health reasons and some for its potent, long lasting effects. While the effects are long lasting, this method is not the quickest acting since an edible is being eaten, it must be processed through the digestive system which does vary person to person. Edibles are best used with a little education and caution to truly have the best experience, this can make it seem like a daunting task to get into but no fear ATLRx is here. Some people are hesitant initially because of stories you’ve likely heard about an edible experience gone wrong, though important to remember that a CBD edible does not require the same extent of caution.

Below you will find a recipe we’ve created to make your own edibles at home, we are using a CBD flower (Cookies strain!) to create this masterpiece. This is a two step process, first we turn the cannabis flower into a version where it will be most efficiently absorbed by the body. The extract we are using is called a canna butter, binding the activated cannabinoid of choice to the fat content of whatever carrier you will be using, in this recipe we will use butter. This is a fun way to play around with different flavors and cannabinoids depending on the type of edibles you desire, maybe you want to make a medicated sweet treat or maybe you want to add your extract to a savory meal. So many possibilities!

CBD Edibles

            So what about the effects…?

Edibles do have a unique sensation that is distinct to this method of consumption, the feeling is full body and mind relaxation, this is attributed to the digestion of the plant material. During digestion the cannabinoids will be broken down and processed through the liver, this deep absorption is combined with the conversion of cannabinoids in the body and thus creating the most potent activation in the body. We recommend a dose of 10-15 miligrams when ingesting a Delta 8 THC edible, and anywhere from 15-50 milligrams of a CBD edible. This will depend on a number of factors like age, size and current tolerance to the specific cannabinoid. Sometimes, half the fun can be experimenting with a variety of doses to find your sweet spot, especially if you plan to use edibles multiple occasions. A functional daytime dose will likely be different than a dosage planned to aid sleep.

CBD Hemp Flower

The time it takes to digest food varies amongst humans though, keep this in mind, the average time is one to two hours, important to remember so that 30 minutes after you eat your first dose you wont be saying “ huh I don’t feel anything, I should probably eat a little more” that’s the best way to have a potential mishap. So use the phrase “Low and slow” as a reminder (especially a novice edible consumer), low doses and patience can be highly rewarding. Happy baking!

  1. *Decarb flower. Break buds into small pieces and spread a thin, even layer across sheet of aluminum foil. Bake for about 30-40 mins at 230 degrees.

  1. Melt butter and place decarbed bud into the butter and heat mixture on low for about 4-6 hours. Stirring occasionally
