CBG Dosage How Much CBG Should You Take

Whenever you’re trying a new cannabinoid, you want to make sure you’re accurately and responsibly dosing your products. Even though cannabinoids like CBG don’t get you high, if you consume too much, you may not have as beneficial an experience as you deserve.

That being said, today we’re addressing the ins and outs of CBG dosage. From what CBG is to factors you should consider when figuring out your ideal dose and everything in between, we’re covering it all. By the time you finish reading, you’ll know how much CBG you should take.

What is CBG?

First and foremost, let’s cover what CBG is.

Cannabigerol is one of the many cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. Even though this compound is considered a “minor” cannabinoid because it isn’t abundantly present in the plant, cannabis simply wouldn’t be the same without CBG.

Let’s explain.

CBG’s precursor is CBGA, also known as the mother of all cannabinoids. Cannabis plants contain CBGA as one of their base compounds during growth. As the plant goes through its grow cycles, the CBGA compound begins to break down, turning into cannabinoids such as CBDA and THCA.

As you can probably guess, CBDA and THCA then turn into our favorite popular cannabinoids: THC and CBD. So, while only a little bit of CBG is left behind from this transformation, without its precursor, the plant wouldn’t be even remotely close to the one we know today.

The CBG cannabinoid is a non-psychoactive one, so it’s not going to get you high if you consume it. However, the compound does bind to both CB1 and CB2 receptors, creating serious supportive potential throughout the body. Because of this, people turn to CBG for various reasons—and in various forms, too.

CBG is federally legal under the 2018 Farm Bill, so it’s easy to buy online and have products shipped to your door.

How to Dose CBG

If you’ve never tried CBG before, you want to make sure you’re being cautious with dosing to ensure the best results. Starting doses don’t fit all, unfortunately, for cannabinoids, including CBG. However, there are ways to easily determine what dosage works best for you.

No matter what cannabinoid you’re dosing, make sure you start with a low dose. For most products, this is about 5-10 mg. If you consume this dose and don’t find it strong enough, then you can slowly increase your milligrams by about 2.5-5 mg. This can be done until you find the dosage that works best for you.

If you’re starting with a CBG oil or gummies, lower dosages like 5 mg. are a great place to begin. With something like a capsule, you may want to start with a slightly higher dose, closer to 10 mg.

Regardless, it’s crucial to be cognizant and responsible about how much CBG you’re consuming. Even if you think you have a high tolerance, if you’ve never tried CBG before, you still want to start with a lower dose to introduce your body to the new cannabinoid properly. Don’t rush the process! Finding your perfect dose may take a bit of trial and error, but there’s an ideal amount out there for you.

CBG Dosing Considerations

In order to find your ideal CBG dose most accurately, there are some factors you’ll want to consider. These include your body chemistry, cannabis tolerance, and the type of product you’re consuming and why.

You have to consider your body chemistry — things like metabolism and weight — when determining your CBG dosage. If your body tends to require higher doses of substances to work, this will likely be the same with CBG. Also, if you have higher body mass, you’ll likely need a higher dosage to get the experience you’re looking for. On the flip side, someone smaller and with a fast metabolism can probably stick with a lower dose simply based on their body chemistry.

Along with body chemistry, you also need to think about your cannabis tolerance. Cannabinoids like CBG are already familiar to your body if you’ve been using cannabis for quite some time. So, you’re probably going to have to start with a much higher dose than someone who has never tried CBG. However, you don’t want to start with a super high dose, as you’re still trying something relatively new. You can start with a moderate dose of CBG and see how it affects you. If it’s not strong enough, you can carefully move up from there.

Finally, you need to consider the type of product you’re interested in and why you want to consume CBG in the first place. Different CBG products produce different efficacies, with products like edibles being much more concentrated and long-lasting while CBG products like flower hit instantly but fade quickly.

If you’re consuming CBG for more acute discomfort or complications, then you won’t need as strong a first dose as someone who is turning to the cannabinoid for more serious reasons. Severe complications will likely need higher doses to get the deep-seated results people are seeking.

So, before you buy any CBG product, make sure to take a moment to consider your body chemistry, cannabis tolerance, and reason for consumption, as well as the consumption method you’re interested in. It will be much easier to determine the best starting dose for you once you have established these factors. And remember, your starting dose doesn’t have to be your forever dose! You can always adjust accordingly.

How to Store CBG

You’ve bought your CBG, and now you’re wondering, “Wait, how do I store this?” We don’t blame you! Proper storage is key to keeping your CBG products fresh and consumable, so here’s how to do it the right way.

When storing products like CBG, you want to remember that they keep best in dry, dark, and cool temperatures.

In terms of dry places, this means that you shouldn’t store your CBG anywhere that has a risk of being exposed to moisture in the air. This would be somewhere like a bathroom, basement, or laundry room. Instead, it’s best to keep your products in the driest areas of the house, like a kitchen cabinet or bedroom drawer.

Your CBG product will degrade quickly in potency and flavor if frequently exposed to bright lights. Because of this, you want to keep your products out of direct sunlight or artificial light, storing them in consistently dark places instead. Again, somewhere like a drawer is ideal because it will stay in the dry, cool, dark space without light impeding.

Finally, temperature plays a huge role here, too. You don’t want your CBG products to be stored in places that have extreme temperatures, either hot or cold. This means that you can’t keep your products outside, and even spots like fridges will be too chilly. Instead, it’s best to keep your products stored around 60-70°F; this will ensure that the cannabinoids and terpenes stay protected and undisturbed.

If you follow all of these procedures when storing your CBG product, you should be able to keep coming back to it day after day, week after week. After all, your CBG products can stay good for months at a time if stored properly.

How Can You Take CBG?

One of the best things about CBG is its versatility. This cannabinoid can be utilized and consumed in so many ways; it just depends on what you enjoy most.

CBG hemp flower is one of the most popular products out there, and you can enjoy CBG flower in various ways. Many people grind it up and put it in their bowls, while others will roll it up into a joint and use it that way. You can combine it with other cannabis flower for different experiences, or just use the CBG flower the way it is. The choice is yours. (Just make sure to avoid this consumption method if you have any lung or throat conditions or complications.) With burning, you’ll experience the results of your CBG almost instantly.

If you don’t want to burn CBG, you don’t have to. You can turn to gummies instead. CBG gummies are great options as you simply consume them as you would a regular treat, and the flavors of the edible hide the plant-like flavors of the CBG extract. Your CBG gummy will begin to work after about an hour (or another edible). Just make sure you’re patient when waiting for the experience to kick in, as it can take up to two hours to start working.

In case you’re seeking more rapid results but still aren’t interested in burning, a CBG tincture is a good choice, too. These tinctures have oils like CBG isolate, and you can consume them either orally or sublingually.

Oral consumption of a CBG tincture means that you’re adding the oil to your food or drink and then consuming it that way. With this method, the experience will take about as long as an edible one. In sublingual consumption, however, you hold the oil under your tongue for a few seconds before swallowing it. When you consume it this way, the experience will kick in closer to 15-20 minutes later.

Whether it’s burning, consuming, or sublingual consumption, you can enjoy your CBG product in so many different ways. The choice is yours and simply depends on your preferences.

Various Forms of CBG Products

Today, there are a variety of CBG products available on the market. You can find CBG flower, CBG gummies, CBG distillate, and so much more.

In the past, CBG flower used to be hard to come by, but cultivators have now found ways to crossbreed strains, creating flower with much higher CBG percentages than ever before. Some companies will also choose to coat their hemp flower in CBG extract for even more prominent results.

Along with CBG flower, you’ll also come across CBG pre-rolls. These are pre-rolled joints that contain CBG flower, perfect for burning on the go or when you’re on an outdoor adventure.

CBG gummies come in all different flavors and strengths, giving you a fun and tasty way to enjoy the CBG cannabinoid. Again, these types of products will take some time to kick in, but they’re great to add to your morning routine because you’ll just take them and forget them— until you start to be more internally balanced.

CBG distillate is a wonderful product to purchase if you’re interested in trying CBG in a few different ways. With CBG distillate, you can add the concentrate to a recipe of your choosing to infuse the meal and add a whole new layer of satisfaction. Or, if you have a refillable vape pen, you can fill the pen with the distillate and puff on the oil whenever you so choose. Of course, you can also top your flower off with some distillate, or wrap it around a blunt or joint. The opportunities are endless.

Finally, CBG topicals are good products for consumers who don’t necessarily want to consume CBG. With a topical, you’ll apply the product to the points of your body that need the most support, just like a typical lotion, balm, or salve. Then, within minutes, you’ll start to notice a difference.

That being said, if you have a favorite lotion and a CBG distillate, you can add some drops of distillate to your lotion to create your own CBG topical.

Is CBG psychoactive?

No, CBG is not psychoactive. The cannabinoid binds to CB1 and CB2 receptors in the same way that THC does, but it doesn’t offer any psychoactive results. Thus, CBG products will not get you high and are designed for those who are more focused on therapeutic properties than intoxicating ones.

How long does CBG last in your system?

How long CBG lasts in the system will depend on various factors. You have to consider your personal body chemistry, the strength of the product you consume, and your frequency of consumption.

With body chemistry, if you have a slow metabolism, it will take longer for the cannabinoids to leave compared to someone who has a fast metabolism. Cannabinoids also cling to fat molecules, so if you don’t have much body mass, the cannabinoids won’t last in your system as long as someone who has a higher fat percentage.

You also have to consider the strength of the product you consumed. If you consume low-dose CBG, then your CBG dose isn’t going to last as long as someone who takes high-potency products. That’s because there is simply less CBG overall.

Finally, consider your frequency of use. If you don’t consume CBG frequently, it’s likely to leave the system within about 24-72 hours. But, if you enjoy CBG daily or even weekly, it’s going to linger for anywhere from 5-7 days, potentially even longer.

How much CBG should you take?

If you’re new to the world of CBG, it’s recommended to start with about 5-10 mg. However, every person is different, and this amount will differ depending on your cannabis tolerance, why you’re consuming CBG, and the product you’re trying.

What’s the difference between CBD and CBG?

CBG and CBD are both non-psychoactive cannabinoids, but they act differently in the body. CBD doesn’t bind to the CB1 and CB2 receptors the way that CBG does, as CBG has a better affinity. This means that CBD and CBG are also going to create different experiences in the body. But, if you consume them together, you’ll experience widespread results.

What’s the Difference Between CBG and THC?

There are many differences between CBG and THC. Mainly, THC is psychoactive and will get you high, while CBG will not and cannot get you high. THC and CBG may bind to the cannabinoid receptors in the body the same way; one gets you high and one doesn’t. Both cannabinoids offer different supportive benefits as well.

THC is also federally illegal in amounts over 0.3%, but CBG is federally legal on all levels as long as it is hemp-derived and doesn’t contain more than 0.3% THC.
