Delta-8 THC is on the cutting edge of the cannabis world. After finding its way through a clever legal loophole, Delta-8 is here to introduce a slew of the same benefits as traditional (and still illegal) Delta-9 THC, all at a much more potent level than smoking CBD hemp flower.
What is Delta-8? Delta-9 THC stems from THCA, the THC that is actually in cannabis flowers. THCA is decarboxylated into THC over time in the plant, or through application of heat. This process means that a CO2 molecule is dropped, thus turning it into the Delta-9 THC that we associate with getting high and feeling better. A small percentage of the Delta-9 THC will oxidize to become Delta-8 THC, which is considered an analogue of Delta-9 THC. What’s the main difference? Delta-8 has a double bond on the 8th carbon atom, and Delta-9 on the 9th one.
As someone who’s abandoned years of smoking traditional cannabis due to the sometimes overwhelming effects of intoxication and anxiety, I can attest to Delta-8 consistently offering me all the same benefits without debilitating me into any sort of anxiety. I would measure the potency of the effects of Delta-8 somewhere in between that of smoking CBD hemp and traditional Delta-9 cannabis. Boosting my states of creativity, calmness, focus, and relaxation, I now reach for my vape prior to bed instead of my melatonin. ATLRx is currently carrying OG Kush (indica), Sour Diesel (sativa), and Gelato (hybrid) Delta-8 THC in 0.5g and 1g cartridges.
For those transitioning away from traditional Delta-9 THC cannabis who are unable to reap as many benefits from smoking CBD, Delta-8 may be the answer! Unlike CBD hemp flower, Delta-8 is psychoactive akin to its older brother Delta-9. However, Delta-8 packs less of a punch to the mind while still being able to offer a soothing body high and state of relaxation.
